Implementation of the Independent Internship Program: A Case Study at the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Makassar

Abstract

his research examines the implementation of the independent internship program at the Faculty of Education, UNM (Universitas Negeri Makassar). The study focuses on the Implementation, supporting and inhibiting factors of the independent internship program in the Faculty of Education, specifically in the Educational Administration (AP) and Educational Technology (TP) study programs. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, drawing on data from the management level of study programs and from the students who have participated in the independent internship program. The results show that there is no formal selection process in the implementation, with an emphasis on the freedom to choose the internship location. In the AP study program, students are more proactive in seeking internship locations independently; meanwhile, the TP study program offers greater freedom, allowing students to choose a location provided by the program or determine their own. Students in the AP study program do not receive a briefing on campus but get direct guidance at the intership site. The internship process in the TP study program begins with consultation with the supervising lecturer regarding the internship location and the program to be guided at the internship institution. The internship report is prepared in accordance with the study program's guidelines. The supporting factors for the AP study program include support from the university and faculty, as well as strong cooperation with the institutions, which are inhibited by students' limited understanding and poor relevance of course selection. Meanwhile, TP is supported by the alumni network, inhibited by the limited number of field supervising lecturer
