Abstract

This study aims to examine students’ perceptions of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program at the Faculty of Education (FIP), State University of Makassar (UNM). Two main indicators were analyzed: students’ understanding of the MBKM concept and their perceptions of its implementation. The study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The population consisted of FIP UNM students from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts, with a total of 194 respondents who completed an online questionnaire distributed via Google Form. The findings indicate that most students obtained information about MBKM through online media, including official channels of the Ministry of Education and the university’s digital platforms. Students demonstrated good knowledge and understanding of the program and believed that MBKM provides numerous benefits. This reflects a generally positive expectation toward the program. Information about MBKM was also considered easily accessible, which helps students understand the available activities more effectively. Among the respondents, 101 students had participated in MBKM programs. The most popular types were internships, teaching assistantships, student exchanges, and Membangun Desa (village development or community service). Students felt more prepared to join the program after receiving orientation and proper guidance during implementation. Although some found certain activities less relevant to their study curriculum, most agreed that MBKM has provided significant benefits—not only academically but also in enhancing competencies such as problem-solving, adaptability, career readiness, and professional networking.
